2024 Gotham Award Nominations Announced, and Where to see them
Why you might want to give your attention to these nominations and how to watch the nominated movies
The 2024 Gotham Award nominations are (one of?) the first voting bodies to release their nominees for the calendar year. The one film leading all nominations is the Palme d’Or winner, Anora, which continues to dominate the award conversation. The movies nominated for Best Feature include:
(currently in select theaters)
In theaters on December 25th
Available to stream on Prime Video, MGM+, VOD/Digital Retailers
In theaters, Available on PVOD on November 5th
In select theaters on December 13th
Now this list will be FAR different than what the Critics Choice, Screen Actors Guild, or Oscars choose to nominate in the coming months and that’s what makes it all the more exciting! While I’m pretty sure Anora will be included in some of the more prominent awards later in the season, I have a harder time believing some of these other nominees will get the recognition they deserve.
Perhaps even more inspiring is the acting categories. While there’s a good number I haven’t seen yet, I have loved performances from Keith Kupferer (Ghostlight), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance), Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow), Bridgette Lundy-Paine (I Saw the TV Glow), and Katy O’Brian (Love Lies Bleeding).
Ghostlight
Available to stream on AMC+, VOD/Digital Retailers
The Substance
Currently in Theaters, Available on MUBI and VOD/Digital Retailers on October 31st, 2024
I Saw the TV Glow
Available to stream on Max, VOD/Digital Retailers
Love Lies Bleeding
Available to stream on Max, VOD/Digital Retailers
I’m excited to see many of the films I’ve missed on this list and I’ll be starting to work my way through them when I see Nickel Boys, Hard Truths, and The Brutalist during IFF Boston Fall Focus this upcoming weekend. Tickets to most shows remain available (including The Brutalist in 70mm).
