Remember how I said that Pamela needed to show up more? After we see exactly what Gauthier and Uncle Miltie found on that videotape, the series returns to where the relationship between Pam and Tommy began.
Pam is seen sitting with her girlfriends, knocking back drinks at the club. She promptly declares that “Bad boys are out and good boys are in.” Apparently, she’s been in bad relationships and she thinks this time will be different.
Pam must’ve seen Tommy Lee with a woman and decided that she wanted his attention. She sends Tommy drinks, he comes over, and they begin to party.
His introduction to Pam includes licking her face.
I guess there’s nothing like a wet tongue sliding up your face since they instantly become enamored with each other. Before you think this is something that was just made up for Pam and Tommy, I actually have a friend who has been licked on the face during a date. My friends and I have now dubbed this particular dating method “The Yoshi” in honor of the videogame character.
Just as soon as their hot and heavy relationship begins, Pam announces that she has to go to Cancun for a promotional event for Baywatch. She explicitly tells Tommy that he’s not welcome and he shouldn’t follow her to Cancun.
That doesn’t work.
Not only does Tommy Lee find where she’s staying among the many hotels in Cancun, but he even brings his band down with him. The plan is for both groups to go out and have some drinks together, but Tommy Lee isn’t exactly the type of guy for a fine establishment. After being kicked out of one bar, they head to another classy drinking spot, Senor Frogs. Now if you’ve never been to a Senor Frogs, these restaurants really only exist to get people absolutely plastered. I remember going to one in Cozumel when I was younger and the bartenders were literally pouring alcohol down a young woman’s throat.
In other words, it’s the perfect place for Pam and Tommy.
Tommy is falling hard for Pam and he’s about to make a huge decision. But first, he has to talk with his most trusted ally to decide if marriage is the best course of action. So, he stands naked in front of a mirror and proceeds to have a conversation about marriage with his penis. Yes, his penis. No, I won’t be taking any questions. He tells his penis that Pam is the one and that’s the end of that; they get married on the beach. When they return back to the U.S., they find that their whirlwind romance has made quite the impression in the media. When they finally get in the car, and the buzz is gone, they realize that they don’t know anything about each other. They don’t even know where they’ll live. That’s when Tommy tells Pam about the renovations he is doing on his mansion and Pam meets Gauthier for the first time.
I think the argument could be made that the first and second episodes should’ve been released in reverse order. This is the natural beginning of the Pam and Tommy story and introduces audiences not only to their relationship, but also the performances of Lily James and Sebastian Stan. That, more than anything, is what drew me to this series originally.
And guess what? James and Stan deliver. They are perfect as the superstar pair and have plenty of chemistry together. I’m excited to see how the next episode brings these two different story threads together and how that will shape the rest of Pam and Tommy.
The first three episodes of Pam and Tommy are currently streaming exclusively on Hulu.
